Review - Hawksmoor

It’s very odd that it has taken our team a few months to get round to trying out Manchesters’ very own Hawksmoor restaurant – we’d like to blame Christmas festivities, but also the sheer volume of top class eateries opening in this great city!

For those who are unfamiliar with the London food scene, you may be surprised to know that Hawksmoor is already famous down there.  Their name is synonymous with perfectly cooked steak, amazing burgers, artisan fries/chips, and basically fine dining for the masses.  After opening a number of branches down in the big smoke, it is a privilege that they chose our city to be the recipient of their first restaurant outside the M25.

Walking into, it certainly looks and feels like a Hawksmoor: classically rustic yet polished, and somehow exuding both luxury and class, yet simple and authentic all at the same time.  The ambience in general is tried and tested, and the informal vibe and excellent cocktails menu means the venue could well be a pre- and post-meal  hangout.

The big question to be answered is whether they could replicate the excellence and consistency of their food from their London-based joints up North – and the short answer is 'Hell Yeah!'  (and then some!)  People I spoke to ahead of my visit were already proclaiming this as the ‘best Steak in Manchester’ – and to be honest, it’s certainly up there for me!

My starter of wild sea bass was exquisite, my fillet steak was perfectly cooked (rare) and deliciously oozed flavour, and the triple-cooked chips were exactly how I like them.  I didn’t fancy a dessert, but after sneaking a spoon of my date's Sticky toffee pudding, I ordered one for myself - amazing!

All in all, a fabulous dining experience, a real mid-week treat, and one I’d strongly recommend!
