Hooray! It’s a bank holiday weekend! Normally that would mean that there would be all manner of things taking place across our great city - food festivals over here, beer festivals over there, and all sorts of arts, drama and activity on our streets… but this bank holiday, well… meh. This might be the most miserable, joyless, unfun, boring bank holiday ever...
Normally a bank holiday weekend is something I look forwards to, but if it wasn’t for the fact that my calendar says ‘bank holiday Monday’ on it, then I don’t think I’d even notice. Now that everyone is working from home, then most of the time I don’t even really know what day of the week it is anyways.
Even more disappointing than the fact that the city centre is a pale imitation of its former self (though the bars, restaurants, shops and hairdressers are all now open, so do go and support them if you are brave enough) is the fact that they’ve even managed to suck all the fun out of being at home – they’ve banned people from coming around to our houses and gardens, so there’s no chance of an all-day barbecue, or an afternoon garden party.
It’s still possible to meet up in public parks (I guess that’s why people have been turning up to our local park with tents and gazebos to sit under for the day), but that’s not quite the same.
So maybe this bank holiday I’ll just treat myself to (another) lie-in and spend some time cleaning the cooked. What a way to live. :/
