Manchester is Theatreland

Manchester is Theatreland

The Manchester International Festival recently announced their programme of stunning events for their bi-annual festival – including an opera aimed exclusively for babies!

But top-drawer theatre is not just a once a year thing in Manchester: it’s here all year round.  On top of the Palace Theatre, the Manchester Opera house [which both offer CityCard discounts!] and the Lowry theatre – all offering a venue for some of the theatrelands biggest and best hits, from Grease to Spamalot, and with ballet and opera’s and comedy thrown into the mix.

There’s also the Royal Exchange theatre, which stages plays in the round, and in 2016, our city saw the arrival of the Home theatre, which offers another world class venue for contemporary arts.

Then there’s the MEN arena (or whatever it’s called these days) for the MASSIVE bands and shows (Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, etc…), and, if you’re after more high brow entertainment, the Bridgewater hall has the best acoustics in the country, and the Royal Northern College of Music is a place where the opera and stage stars of tomorrow are available to watch today, for half the usual price!

But it’s not just the city centre that theatre is thriving: out in the suburbs, there are a myriad of local theatres and amateur dramatics groups, which offer a broad range of shows to suit all tastes.  Our local theatre in Marple is currently showing the Gang Show, which consists of a cast made up almost entirely of super-talented kids!

Whatever you’re into, you’ll find it in Manchester!
