Every time I sit down to write this column, it’s nearly always raining. I don’t know how, or why, but, I guess we may as well just get used to the dreary weather we’re going to have here in Manchester and just get on with making the most of it.
Luckily, there’s plenty of things that can be done indoors in Manchester: eating and drinking are obvious ones, but we’re also blessed with some of the UK’s best specialist indoor centres for skiing, swimming, running (on a treadmill) and – my favourite leisure activity – karting!
There’s a fantastic TeamSport go-karting track underneath Manchester Victoria train station where the wind and rain won’t bother you, and you can get on with exhilarating yourself with high-speed, adrenaline-pumping, fast-turning action. The cars are second to none in Manchester, the 550m multi-layered course is a genuine thrill to drive, and, particularly with a bit of friendly competition, it can make for an absolutely brilliant and memorable time.
Putting your foot to the floor and honing in on the racing line (getting faster and faster each lap) is mesmerising!
CityCard members get 20% off track time Monday to Friday, and it’s just the thing to brighten up the middle of the week. And they even have an underground bar with a fine view of the track – so you won’t even notice the grey sky, drizzle or general meh of the weather.
See the TeamSport offer page for more details – pre-booking required.
