It’s great to see that, after the love Ariana Grande (and friends) showered on our city, Manchester is sending love right back in her direction – by making her an honorary citizen of Manchester!
But wait – this isn’t an honour that’s bestowed on just anyone – in fact, Ariana is the FIRST EVER person to be made an honorary citizen of our city!
Sir Richard Leese, the City’s council leader, proposed the idea after being inspired by the comfort she brought to thousands after returning to the city to lead the tributes after the attack – plus the millions she raised for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which has been providing so much help and support to those affected by the terrible attack.
We think it’s a great accolade, and she fully deserves the support of our city: her story is now intertwined with the history of Manchester.
It seems odd to think that it was under two months ago, and there are genuinely so many people – not least the 22 - who deserve to be remembered and honoured from that night.
At CityCard, we’re still offering free CityCards to anyone involved in the emergency services to thank them for their contribution to making our city the place it is, and making us feel safe – so far we’ve given out over 2,000 CityCards, but if you know someone who deserves one, please get in touch.
