If you’ve been inspired by the Curling at the Winter Olympics, you’ll be disappointed to know that our nearest curling rink is in Scotland – but you can practice those skills at a ten pin bowling alley!
If you’re like me, bowling is a bit of a funny one – it’s one of those activities that you absolutely love when you’re playing, but that you never quite get around to booking a lane.
There’s all that friendly banter to be had as you pick up the clown shoes and set up funny nick-names in the machine, more japes as you start getting the balls rolling down the lane, and then a competitive streak comes out after about six ends, when there’s two of you staring each other out after getting a decent mix of strikes and spares!
Usually it takes at least a couple of games to get your eye and your hand in enough to get a respectable score – which is lucky, because after three games, you’ll start to notice blisters on your bowling hand. It’s also lucky because CityCard members get special rates at two bowling alleys, where you’ll get two games for the price of one! Two is the perfect number.
At both venues, you’ll also find a decent bar and tasty snacks – bowling is a great warm up for a night out, or, indeed, for the next Winter Olympics!
CityCard members get 2-4-1 bowling at AMF bowling in Bury (in the Rock centre) and 2-4-1 bowling at Tenpin in East Didsbury - off peak hours only for both of them – check our website for details.
