These dark cold nights are terrible for actually getting anything done. They practically beg you to head for home to get cosy and flop down in front of the TV. Should I do that? No. Can’t be bothered. But we’ll soon see the arrival of something worth going out at night for – Manchester Christmas markets!
This weekend we’ve got the Rugby and bonfires to occupy us, but Manchester fans will be glad to hear that stalls are already being built across our City, and the Markets officially kick-off next Friday 8th November!
The smells, sounds and tastes of the Manchester Christmas markets – the biggest and best in the UK, as it happens – are already getting me excited. The cold and dark seem wonderful then, when they complement the pretty lights, jovial atmosphere and the warm hubbub of the bar areas or hot food stalls.
It’s the 20th year of the markets this year, and they are bigger than ever before – extending (properly) all the way to Piccadilly gardens, from their main festival hub in Albert square. There’s a new giant Santa to check out, and there’s all sorts of new things to eat - from toasted marshmallows to Christmas dinner in a giant Yorkshire pudding – and there’s even more novelty places to sit for a drink – from ice-bars to snow globes, ‘ski chalets’ and private karaoke booths…
And when (if?) you ever get bored of the markets in Manchester, there’s a who-ville themed Christmas market near the Lowry centre – which will hopefully be a cool place to go if you’re a big fan of the Grinch!
So hang on in there – Christmas is coming…!
